The dealership I take mine and my wife’s vehicles to has sold their Mazda franchise. They were a Mazda, Kia, Volvo dealer with a heavy emphasis on Kia. Well, the emphasis got heavier as they’re now just a Kia dealer and some unnamed dealer two doors down took on their Mazda franchise.
The new dealer doesn’t have an official name and barely has a website. I called them today and they have records of my 6 but not my wife’s CX-5. Sigh. So now I have to take our vehicles to this new place I don’t know or trust when I had developed a relationship with the other dealer. It was where we bought my 6 and they knew my wife and I and our vehicles very well.
And we are due for oil changes soon, and my wife’s CX-5 has an open recall that needs to be addressed (liftgate struts). I guess we’ll see how the new dealer does then. It better be good, since we have to travel 40 miles to get there.
There is a Mazda dealer in our town, but they sell mostly Fords and barely any Mazdas. They keep 4-5 Mazdas in stock, ususally. And, they don’t know Mazdas well at all nor do they care to. To top it off, they keep zero parts in stock.
This local dealer changed the oil in my wife’s CX-5 for us once and I vowed they’d never do it again. They left such a mess under it that I thought it was leaking oil. Nope. They just spilled some and never cleaned it up. That adds to the numerous other horror stories I’ve heard about there. Hence why we take ours to the dealer in the neighboring city.
Here’s the new dealer’s website:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The new dealer’s website prominently displays the RX-8, Mazda’s most unreliable vehicle ever. And one that’s been out of production for eight years. Smart move for sure...
Sometimes, I wish we’d have just bought Hondas or Toyotas so we could go to the dealer here in town and not worry about it. Having relatively uncommon vehicles gets annoying.

There are parts of the country where “buy what’s nearby” makes the most sense.

Why not just change your own oil?

I think I’m in one. But, I just wanted what I wanted and I’m stubborn like that. I didn’t want a Camry or an Accord. I wanted a 6. I have to deal with its relative uncommoness, though.

What about taking it to a non-dealer? It’s just an oil change. I do my own work on my Mazda 3. There is a website called mymazda.com and you can submit receipts to them if you are worried about warranty upkeep maintenance.

Speaking of recalls, I just found out my 6, and yours, will soon have a recall too.

Costs the same to have them do it with the coupons Mazda sends me all the time.

But you’re also driving 40mi each way and waiting around until they do it.

Interesting. From what I can see, it’s the 2014-2015 6 and the 2015-2016 3. The 6 changed to an electronic parking brake in 2016. Wonder if that makes a difference?

True. I just didn’t want them to try and deny any warranty service if I did that.

Really? I use MyMazda but haven’t seen that. I have used the dealer just so they couldn’t deny warranty coverage in the future.

Sounds like it does and thanks for pointing that out as I hadn’t noticed the hand operated note. Someone forwarded it to me and I just accented it.

If they did they would be in violation of FTC regulations.

I still have trouble adjusting to the electronic one in my car. I always push the button the wrong way. But I’m neurotic and use my parking brake anytime I park on a hill. I don’t like having the transmission catch the weight of the car.

One would think all the Mazda techs from the old dealership would move to the new one, unless they were also certified as Kia techs.

The one in my Mom’s old 2010 Legacy was really annoying because you pushed it to activate it. Why they had to make it work backwards to a normal parking brake I will never know.

I’ve only used mine a handful of times since I live in one of the flattest parts of the country, but it takes me a few attempts to turn it on/off each time as well. I like the small size, but I miss grabbing a big easy to use handle.

I think they had a specific Mazda tech because my warranty appointment for the trunk trim pieces depended on his schedule.

Such is the plight of the enthusiast.
I’ve wanted a KTM Duke for as long as I can remember. But the nearest KTM dealer is at least an hour away and only sells dirt bikes. Never mind the fact that any KTM street bike is super rare in the states. How bad do I want one considering the likely hardship I’d have to endure for service and parts.
Meanwhile, there’s an awesome Ducati dealer 2 doors down from where I get falafel. Not a bad fallback option, I suppose.

I use the parking brake in any car I ever drive regardless if its auto or standard.

You spend more time at the dealer than a Land Rover owner, sir.

I only go for oil changes and my 6 has been there twice - once for a seat upholstery repair and once for the trunk trim pierces. Both under warranty.

Wow. Is a single non-dealer oil change grounds for warranty denial? (Admit I’ve never bought new...)
![]() 07/17/2017 at 11:37 |

Yes, it’s illegal, but it doesn’t stop certain manufacturers (ahem, Subaru). Same problem as the Lemon Law, the manufacturers force you to sue them before they do the right thing. They know most people don’t have the time/money to litigate so they get away with tons of shit.

Getting your oil changed by a non dealer is not grounds for a warranty denial as long as you keep receipts/records of service. I do my own oil changes on my 3, it’s not that hard and I can afford to use high end synthetic since I’m doing it with oil I buy at Walmart.

unfortunately the same happened to my dad. we had a local mazda dealer less than 3 miles away, now the nearest one is almost 20 miles away.
